The Third St Marylebone Festival

In anticipation of our Changing Lives project, the third St Marylebone Festival celebrates our local community and the rich cultural heritage of the parish. ‘Come and Sing’ with the nation’s favourite choral composer, John Rutter, who was born above the neighbouring Globe Pub; and explore our connections with famous figures such as Lord Byron, Ethel Smyth and Gerald Finzi, as well as hearing the stories of lesser-known locals, such as Noel Mewton-Wood and Joseph Woelfl. 
 

We look to the world at large and mark the 100^th anniversary of Women’s Suffrage with a concert of music by the Marylebone-born composer and activist, Dame Ethel Smyth.
The 150^th Anniversary of Scott of the Antarctic, whose second in command, Teddy Evans, originated from Marylebone. 
The end of the First World War.
We stage Holst’s Planets, arranged for two pianos, in honour of the lunar eclipse and Mars’ close approach to Earth on 27 July!
We recreate the Marylebone of the past at a Fête Galante Masquerade, where you will hear music from the 18^th Century Pleasure Gardens of Old Marylebone.
Finally, don’t forget to book your tickets for the 1860’s dinner and soirée on the final evening as a salute to another Marylebone connection – Mrs. Beeton.
